{"id":2307,"date":"2016-06-13T00:00:37","date_gmt":"2016-06-13T07:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.3.4\/?p=2307"},"modified":"2018-01-09T06:50:24","modified_gmt":"2018-01-09T14:50:24","slug":"raspberry-pi-3-gqrx-sdr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cloudacm.com\/?p=2307","title":{"rendered":"Raspberry Pi 3 GQRX SDR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Raspberry Pi 3 has enough power to run applications that were out of reach of earlier versions.\u00a0 Software Defined Radio, commonly known as SDR, is such an application.\u00a0 There are several program options that can be installed.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be covering GQRX because it powered by GNU-Radio and Qt.\u00a0 You can find more information about the software at <a href=\"http:\/\/gqrx.dk\/\">http:\/\/gqrx.dk\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Installing gqrx is done by follownig the instructions outlined on the GQRX developer&#8217;s website, <a href=\"http:\/\/gqrx.dk\/download\/install-ubuntu\">http:\/\/gqrx.dk\/download\/install-ubuntu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is an excerpt.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>For Ubuntu 14.04 \u2013 16.04 you can choose to use packages from <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~gqrx\/+archive\/ubuntu\/gqrx-sdr\/\"><em>our own personal package archive<\/em><\/a><em> (PPA) where you can get the latest version of Gqrx for Ubuntu and derivatives. This PPA depends on a few other third party package archives to provide the latest SDR drivers and GNU Radio packages.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>To start using the PPA, first make sure that you do not have any other source or binary installation of gqrx, gnuradio or the SDR driver libraries installed. The following commands remove binary installations of gqrx and gnuradio, but not installations from source:<\/em><\/p>\n<pre><code>sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove gqrx\r\nsudo apt-get purge --auto-remove gqrx-sdr<\/code><\/pre>\n<p><em>You should now remove the gqrx\/releases or gqrx\/snapshots PPA from the list of repositories \/ package source if you have been using these.<\/em><\/p>\n<pre><code>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:gqrx\/releases\r\nsudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:gqrx\/snapshots<\/code><\/pre>\n<p><em>Then add the new repositories to the package manager by typing the following in a terminal \u2013 one line at a time (note the version specific line):<\/em><\/p>\n<pre><code>sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:bladerf\/bladerf\r\n                   (for 14.04 - 15.10 only \u2013 not used )\r\nsudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:ettusresearch\/uhd\r\nsudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:myriadrf\/drivers\r\nsudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:myriadrf\/gnuradio\r\nsudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:gqrx\/gqrx-sdr\r\nsudo apt-get update<\/code><\/pre>\n<p><em>If that went well without errors, continue with installing gqrx:<\/em><\/p>\n<pre><code>sudo apt-get install gqrx-sdr<\/code><\/pre>\n<p><em>You can now find gqrx in the desktop menu or start it from a terminal by typing gqrx.\u00a0 Once you have installed Gqrx from the PPA, updates will be available through the package manager.\u00a0 It is recommended that users also install the libvolk1-bin package and run the volk_profile tool to optimize GNU Radio performance on the specific computer it is being used on.<\/em><\/p>\n<pre><code>sudo apt-get install libvolk1-bin\r\nvolk_profile<\/code><\/pre>\n<p><em>Wait for it to finish, then enjoy the performance boost :-)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Once installed, the audio typically is piped out the HDMI port.\u00a0 You can redirect it to the audio jack of the Raspberry Pi by entering this command in a terminal window.<\/p>\n<pre><code>amixer cset numid=3 1<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>More details about this command can be found on the Raspberry Mate website, <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntu-mate.community\/t\/ubuntu-mate-15-04-for-raspberry-pi-2\/517\">https:\/\/ubuntu-mate.community\/t\/ubuntu-mate-15-04-for-raspberry-pi-2\/517<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now the software is ready to run, without the hangs after a few seconds issue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Raspberry Pi 3 has enough power to run applications that were out of reach of earlier versions.\u00a0 Software Defined Radio, commonly known as SDR, is such an application.\u00a0 There are several program options that can be installed.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be covering GQRX because it powered by GNU-Radio and Qt.\u00a0 You can find more information about the software at http:\/\/gqrx.dk\/ Installing gqrx is done by follownig the instructions outlined on the GQRX developer&#8217;s website, http:\/\/gqrx.dk\/download\/install-ubuntu Here is an excerpt.
