{"id":416,"date":"2014-02-12T14:57:37","date_gmt":"2014-02-12T14:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.3.4\/?p=416"},"modified":"2018-01-09T06:48:35","modified_gmt":"2018-01-09T14:48:35","slug":"smart-helmets-for-dumb-riders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cloudacm.com\/?p=416","title":{"rendered":"Smart Helmets and Dumb Drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The concept of using a sensor laden helmet is nothing new.\u00a0 My first thoughts of this type of bike helmet were brought about by the QuickFire sensor lab last quarter.\u00a0 The smart helmet term is something coined to describe a helmet that has sensors on it.\u00a0\u00a0 Truth be told, wearing a helmet is fundamentally the smart thing to do.\u00a0 I can attest since bomping my noggin at the skate park with my son.\u00a0 Actually, I&#8217;ve known that fact for much longer.\u00a0 With that said, don&#8217;t be stupid, just wear your friggin helmet!<\/p>\n<p>I was able to find a helmet pre marketed from <a href=\"http:\/\/life-beam.com\/\">LifeBEAM<\/a> that provided biometric information.\u00a0 The information was captured with a sensor built in the bike helmet.\u00a0 Then that data sent to a phone using bluetooth.\u00a0 The phone app then processes, stores, or displays the details back to the rider.\u00a0 The developer also had some other offerings.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CWQqInxEtlk\" height=\"135\" width=\"240\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nIf biometric data seems smart, what about the environment around?\u00a0 I get blown away by some folks on my rides.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not talking about pro athletes blasting past me, I&#8217;m talking about heavy peddle diesel truck drivers.\u00a0 The over rev during a pass by is an unspoken language of aggression.\u00a0 To my relief, my ebike offers me a no huff solution, I&#8217;ll just hold my breath.\u00a0 This isn&#8217;t offered to the puritan bicyclist.<\/p>\n<p>An article released in October of 2013 said what we already knew for a long time.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2013\/10\/17\/us-cancer-pollution-idUSBRE99G0BB20131017\">Air pollution is bad<\/a>.\u00a0 Really!?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve seen articles, documentaries, and demonstrations on the effects of coal dust in transit on railway systems.\u00a0 The &#8220;stuff&#8221;
