{"id":658,"date":"2014-03-12T08:00:01","date_gmt":"2014-03-12T08:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.3.4\/?p=658"},"modified":"2018-01-09T06:48:48","modified_gmt":"2018-01-09T14:48:48","slug":"dust-in-the-wind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cloudacm.com\/?p=658","title":{"rendered":"Dust In The Wind"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 3 GP2Y1010AU0F Compact Optical Dust Sensors arrived in the mail the other day.\u00a0 These are air quality sensors that use IR to detect\u00a0fine particles and smoke in the air.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be using them with my sensor helmet to detect air pollution and plot the results on a map or overlay the readings on my action camera video.\u00a0 They are smaller than I envisioned.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DustSensor.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-665\" alt=\"DustSensor\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DustSensor-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cloudacm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DustSensor-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cloudacm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DustSensor-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.cloudacm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DustSensor.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sparkfun sells them but they were out of stock.\u00a0 I managed to find them on eBay for $8 each, plus they included the cable.\u00a0 Well, the cable included was wrong.\u00a0 The sensors take a 6 conductor 1.5mm spaced connector, they shipped me a 3 conductor 1.5mm spaced connector.\u00a0 I did a search online and found out some information about the pinning.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/sensorapp.net\/?p=479\">This website<\/a> appears to have the wires soldered on the back end of the connector.\u00a0 Not sure if I really want to do that, seems kind of risky to the board.<\/p>\n<p>To my relief, I found <a href=\"http:\/\/arduinodev.woofex.net\/2012\/12\/01\/standalone-sharp-dust-sensor\/\">this website<\/a> that had a parts list.\u00a0 Lo and behold, that&#8217;s exactly what I need.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digikey.com\/product-detail\/en\/2058943-5\/A100196-ND\/2136140?itemSeq=146039838&amp;uq=635300880396410992\">Digikey sells them<\/a> for about $1.50 each.\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to scrap the idea of soldering wires in desperation.<\/p>\n<p>Besides finding some details about the sensor, pinout, and cable to get, I found great references for code.\u00a0 It&#8217;s helpful to have some help along the way.\u00a0 With the cornucopia of sensors going into the helmet, having a clear understanding of the code is a must.\u00a0 It&#8217;s already going to be a challenge getting all of this stuff to fit in the helmet.\u00a0 On top of that, fitting the code into the Pro Mini will also be a feat yet to be done.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 3 GP2Y1010AU0F Compact Optical Dust Sensors arrived in the mail the other day.\u00a0 These are air quality sensors that use IR to detect\u00a0fine particles and smoke in the air.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be using them with my sensor helmet to detect air pollution and plot the results on a map or overlay the readings on my action camera video.\u00a0 They are smaller than I envisioned. &nbsp;
