{"id":728,"date":"2014-04-01T08:00:35","date_gmt":"2014-04-01T08:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.3.4\/?p=728"},"modified":"2018-01-09T06:48:47","modified_gmt":"2018-01-09T14:48:47","slug":"spring-2014-costs-cases-connections-compartments-and-captures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cloudacm.com\/?p=728","title":{"rendered":"Spring 2014 &#8211; Phones, Presentation,  Processing, and Pi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This quarter I&#8217;ll be covering 4 P&#8217;s, these are Phones, Presentation,\u00a0 Processing, and Pi.\u00a0 The posts this quarter will follow a different structure.\u00a0 The subjects below will be the main entries.\u00a0 As more work is done in each subject, entries will be made and included with the post.\u00a0 At the end of the quarter, they will be divided evenly in time from each other, this will help offer a more cohesive flow of the content.<\/p>\n<p>Phones really refers to smart phones.\u00a0 Developing apps has never been easier.\u00a0 Stanford offers online resources for apple with the SiTU site.\u00a0 Meanwhile, MIT offers app building on Android devices using its App Inventor site.\u00a0 These pervasive mobile devices are almost everywhere.\u00a0 The infrastructure that supports these devices covers such a vast area, that it safe to assume that this will become a fundamental technology.\u00a0 The apps that developers have created range from trivial to engaging.\u00a0 It has been used and demonstrated many times as an extension to what can be done with dedicated devices.<\/p>\n<p>Next, I&#8217;ll be covering the presentation of the data.\u00a0 More specifically, this will be an introduction to the internet of things.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll look into providers that offer this service like Xively and Thingspeak.\u00a0 The future of this physical integration into the information domain will be a progression into the unknown.\u00a0 It should be interesting to see what discoveries are made and skills gleaned from the effort over the next 3 months.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll then continue on with Pi, which refers to the Raspberry Pi platform.\u00a0 This extremely small and powerful computer is being used in ways I hadn&#8217;t envisioned when it was first released.\u00a0 The natural progression of PIC, Basic Stamp, Arduino, on to Pi made this a requirement for research.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Processing is an application that will do some interesting tasks.\u00a0 The development platform is similar to Arduino and was first demonstrated to me from Jeremy Blum&#8217;s tutorial blog.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve seen it used in other uses and find it useful to know for future projects.<\/p>\n<p>Dates to remember for the Spring 2014 Quarter<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" summary=\"Student Planning Calendar ~ has three column headings, with content describing dates and events scheduled for the quarter.\" width=\"763\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<colgroup>\n<col width=\"68\" \/>\n<col width=\"64\" \/>\n<col width=\"631\" \/> <\/colgroup>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"68\" height=\"20\">4\/1\/2014<\/td>\n<td width=\"64\">Tuesday<\/td>\n<td width=\"631\">Spring 2014 classes begin.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"68\" height=\"20\">5\/25\/2014<\/td>\n<td width=\"64\">Monday<\/td>\n<td width=\"631\">Academic Holiday &#8211; Memorial Day.
